A Bump on the Head Can do Wonders For Your Image

When I was about 11, I had just learned to hang from a bar, upside-down by my legs. I was really proud of this since all the cool kids were doing it at school. In my eagerness to show off my new skill in the schoolyard, I impulsively decided to hang upside-down from a railing outside one of the classrooms.

Once my legs were secure, I let my body flop backwards and gravity take over. It wasn't long before I realized my error. I had chosen to hang from a bar with a second bar below at just the right height to bash my cranium into. How I overlooked this small factor, I don't know. But my stunt didn't look as cool as I had planned and it was very painful!

However, it was not as painful as the time I tried the same stunt, hanging from the edge of a pool! This time I bashed my head into cement and came up with a nose and mouth full of water. I guess it took two bumps on the head to get some sense into me! I wish I had gotten those bumps and the sense BEFORE I attempted my infamous belly flop - so much more pleasant in concept than reality. I swear, they should post warnings in pool areas for kids who haven't already tried it. Does every kid do the experimental belly flop or was it just me?
