Arnie: A Small Spider With A Big Heart

This is a recent photo of Arnie. Since this photo was taken, he has snagged six giant flies, one tiny moth and a mosquito. Go Arnie! Go Arnie!

Arnie lives in the corner of our bathroom window. He moved in a few months ago to this prime fly-catching real estate plot. At the time I did not realize he was a poisonous Hobo Spider. I decided to name him Arnie so he would not be quite so scary looking. He definitely holds up his end of the bargain: he stays in his corner and he catches lots of bugs! With West Nile cases growing by the day, I guess one could really become attached to a guy like Arnie. The "bark" about them is always so much worse than the bite. Now, little Arnies I can live without!
